Downpipe/Clutch replacement

I am needing to replace my flywheel (planning on using Luk kit), qould it be any easier to do a downpipe now. Looking at it the other day it looks like it might but wasn't sure. Just wasn't sure weather to spend the extra money now or wait. BTW Luk or South Bend, and does anyone know about the clutch kit Napa sells. My store has a cancelled special order for about $500. Thanks for any help. Also where should I get a downpipe.

Yes it would be eaiser to put it in with the tranny out. At least easier to get the old one out.....

Might want to leave the new downpipe loose until the tranny is back in to prevent clearance issues there.

I like the LUK, works well for me. Haven't tried a SBC. The Napa clutch I believe is a Valeo unit, same as the stocker.

oh you could work the firewall nicely with the tranny out of the way.

id do the dp while the tranny is out too. like cookie said just leave it loose till the tranny is back in.

i go for the SB thats what i run. if your running stock injectors theres nothing wrong with the luk, i think the SB is smoother

In my experience the removal of the factory downpipe is the only problem with changing the downpipe. After cutting and flattening the lip on the bottom of the firewall you could leave the installation of the new stuff until the trans. was back in place. Just a thought.

camdaddy,

In a word YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS, do it while it's out. It makes getting the stock one out a breeze and just loosely install the new one till you button up the tranny. Take a look at our pipe, they have a little extra "kick" in the first section that makes them a lot easier to install than most. We have them and the cat test pipes in aluminized and 409 stainless too.
