The security light on my boss's 2005 F-150 Lariat is staying on whenever the trcuk is running. This light normally lights up on ignition and then turns off like all the other dash lights, but for some reason it is staying on now. Has anybody seen anything like this or know what could cause this?
This light is located on top of the dash right next to the windshield. It normally flashes when the truck is not running, I guess to deter theft.
Owners manual says that if light is blinking rapidly or on steady while engine is running, there is a problem with the PATS (security system) and it needs to get to the dealer for repair.
I would imagine its still under warranty, so let them deal with it.
BTW, I looked at my wiring diagram and the light finds its ground in the PCM. The PATS module provides an input to the PCM, so there must be some relay that gets tripped when a problem exists. The dealer should be able to scan the PCM for whatever fault code is being generated and take care of it. I couldn't see any input regarding airbags (that should be annunciated on the instrument panel).
Mine did the same thing for a few days and then went back to normal. The manual says the system may correct itself, so I'd tell him to wait a few days before he takes it in.
