I have a 1999 f 350 diesel manual 6 speed.. dually. My daughter was playing radio and later when tried it start ,,key ignition would not start..After checking fuse under dash,.,.i could jumo across solenoid and truck will start but not by key....any suggestions
It will start or it won't start? If it starts by the key its working fine. If not it could be your switch in the clutch pedal. These switches keep you from starting the truck in gear. Not sure were they are but its there somewhere. Good luck
1. turn key ON in ignition
2. put manual transmission in neutral
3. Jump across connections on solenoid....(to simulate the switch turning)
the truck will then start...in my mind eliminating the clutch switch and probably making it a fuse problem but cannot locate it or may be another problem causing this...
It did this once before and it was the fuse under dash....that was blown...appears that one is ok now.....
Looking ofr any suggestions and location of that fuse if it is one
The only reason it starts is because you jump the solinoid. The live wire from the key is not powering up to activate the solinoid which is what you are doin by jumping the solinoid. I still bet its a problem with your safety start switch. I'll look in my manual and see if i can find out were it is and let you know. Good luck
I'd be interested in knowing where that safty switch is as well. I got sort of the same problem with my '01 F550 auto. Sometimes it won't start no click or anything, but if I wiggle shifter on the column it starts fine.
Hey Batgeek. Sometimes the nuetral safety switch on the autos is on the side of the trans were the linkage hooks on. My buddies 2001 duramax did the same thing and it was the box on the side of the trans. I'll start looking in my manual and if i can out for sure.!! Yes i am right. If your auto trans is like the F-250 F-350 tranys there will be a control box on the side of the trans were the linkage holds on. It can be adjusted by loosening 2 bolts and turn it slightly either way. Hope this helps!!
Hey Harreld Lancer here.Try looking up under the dash around the top of your clutch pedal. I think there should be a switch there somewhere. It will have 1 wire going in and 1 wire coming out. The feed wire is white/pink. The wire which goes from the switch to the starter relay is dark blue/orange. If you find the switch check both sides with a test light. The white/pink should have power when the key is turned all the way forward in the starting position. If there is then check the other wire with the key in the same position and the clutch depressed. There sould be power there to. This should help you figure it out. If you cannot get power in the white/pink wire the problem is in the column somewhere. If you get power there and none on the other wire i would its your switch. Good luck!!
