Can anyone recommend a Camshaft for a mostly stock 302 with an Edelbrock 600cfm carb and an Edolbrock performer rpm intake? I'd like to have good low end torque and i like the sound on an aggressive cam. I guess the obvious choice would be the cam that is matched to this intake, but I wanted go get some input from the experts !
Unfortunately the cams with the aggressive sounding lope at idle are not the best for low RPM torque. They make their power higher up and just aren't the hot ticket for a truck. The Performer RPM is good for 1500-6500 RPM so you want a cam that falls within that range, preferably to the lower side. I'd go with something that falls in the 1500-4500/5000 range.
I have 302 just rebuilt in 79 F100. It has Performer Intake; Holley 600, Roller Chain Timing Set and the Edelbrock Performer Plus Cam. At idle sounded stock. With addition of headers I started to hear difference and more torque is certainly there off idle. But overall its not a dramatic change.
