Cam 180* out

So I put a camshaft in not long ago, and never could get my engine right. It actually ran very well but someting was not right. So today I decided to degree my cam shaft. I tore the front apart and got to my timing chain, and there it was, the camshaft TDC marker was up on top (towards the intake) and the crank pully was TDC. Any ever heard of an engine running like this?

Not quite sure, but try rotating the engine 360 degrees using the front crank bolt and then check.

I turned the cam and lined them up. The distributer was pointing to the #5 cylinder also. Can you go wrong by doing this and lining the dots back up?

Should have turned the CRANK and watched the marks line up like they would have and your distributor wouldn't be pointing at #5 now.....

Your cam IS pit 180 degrees now!~!!

We were trying to tell you to crank the engine over 1 turn with the timing gears and chain still installed. Crank will turn 1 complete revolution and cam will turn 1/2 a revolution. Marks will then line up

Did you take the timing chain off and turn the cam?

In SIMPLE terms the crank turns 2 times every time the cam turns one time..... Originally you just needed to turn the crank ONE more turn and the cam would have turned half a turn and "WOULD have been lined up....

LOL....it's OK. Now you know. I wouldn't care to admit how many times I out-thought myself.

It won't make a difference, except that your plug wires will need to be swapped around the distributor cap 180 degrees

Unless, of course, the marks weren't exactly aligned last time...
