Charging System Failure
Just Picked Up A 1985 Ford F-150 4x4 With The 300 I. Guy Told Me That It Needed A New Alternator. Purchased And Installed New Alt. Battery Ended Up Going Dead. Put In Another Battery(not Brand New But Good) And That One Went Dead. Any Advice From Someone Who Has Had Similar Problems Would Be Great. Next Step I Guess Is To Put A New Voltage Regulator On It. Also There Is A Wire That Comes Off The Voltage Reg. And Runs Down To The Alt. That Has A Non Replacable IN-LINE Fuse. Could That Be The Problem Also?

I had voltage regulator go bad and it was shorting and causing the battery to drain. easy way to check the fusable link is to check for continuity of the wire from the regulator through that to the alternator..easy fix is to replace the regulator and see what happens.
