When running hard the boost will fly to 30 and do a dead stop, which is great but there is no waste gate. Is that just all the boost that turbo will make with the factory fueling.
There seems to be alot of confusion concerning both the basics of turbocharger operation, and moreso, the operation of a variable geometry turbo here at FTE.
I'll work on a comprehensive explanation of how it works and post it here if you like, but give me a few days
I'm pretty sure that it's the computer that limits your boost. In the interest of honesty, I have to say I don't know what the maximum amount of boost is for the VGT Turbo on the 6.0, but I know it can go higher than what the factory programming gives you.
When the computer thinks the boost is too high, it'll just back down the VGT valve to cut the turbine speed down.
The computer knows what the bost is and what the available exhaust backpressure is. The computer will adjust the pitch of the exhaust-side turbine blades with the VGT valve to get the desired boost. The idea is a mort consistent boost level even as backpressure varies.
The VGT helps ease some of the physical limits of a conventional turbo. Turbo lag is all but eliminated. It also puts the control of the boost curve into the hands of a computer, which means you can fool with it just as you can with the fuel curve or perhaps the timing curve on a gasser.
I guess I'm just impressed with the responce the veins have then, I can nail it and it will fly to 30 then dead stop, I would have figured it would have momentarily passed 30 for a few then leveled off, It just acts like a gate has fully opened instantly. If a programmer can change this curv than can you make the programmer limit boost in the same way then? I like the idea of adding more fuel all over but also don't like the idea of overboosting, If you could get a program to add fuel all over and still limit boost at 30 ish than that would be great. imo
And is there a way to trick the sensor? I D/C'ed the EGR and my boost cuts out at about 20-22psi, now that sucks! EGR con, yeah high 20's low 30's. Need a way to bypass this problem. Oh yeah opened exhaust no cat/muffler. '05 cc/sb
