What is boost? What do guages use to measure it? Is a high or low boost good? In a PSD what is a high boost and what is a low boost? If boost is to high what will happen? If boost is to low what will happen? On a different note what is to high of a trans temp??
Boost in a nutshell. Boost is air being forced in to the engine, normaly air is sucked in to a engine. air being forced in to a engine makes more power. More boost more power, too much boost and your engine may blowup. Less boost less power. boost is mostly measured in PSI (pound per square inch)
The boost guage can help you determine how the powerplant is running, strong or weak, and after you get use to the numbers, it can also help you to achive the best fuel milage by keeping the boost within a certain range. Transmission temps should not run over 200 degrees for any lenght of time. For every 20 degrees over 200 you cut the life of your transmission oil in half thereby cutting the life of you transmission as well. If you ever get to 240 degrees I would change the oil ASAP. Installing a $150 to $300 transmission cooler, and a $50 transmission temp guage can save you $3000 in the cost of a new transmission.
Yes there is a cooler, However I find it to be very inadequate at best. Especially if you tow. It simply is not beefy enough to handle the job. You would think Ford would have put on a heavy duty cooler on a heavy duty truck that is built to tow large loads. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Ford truck, best truck on the road today, but the transmission is it's weakest link.
