Whats the diffrence between the F100 and f250's frame? Is the F250's frame tougher?
I'm considering a frame swap between my truck and a 76 f250. it has the disc brakes, 4 speed granny, and power steering I wanted to do, but it's on 8 lug wheels. i figured swapping frames and either moving the axle forward a few inches, or extending my cab back would be easier (and more fun) than trying to move all those parts over, especialy if the fram is stronger. I know mine is lose.
beater, Best I can tell the frame is the same, the difference is all below the chassis with the springs and axles. A lot of other componants like steering gear and metal lines are the same.
All of the swapping that I have been involved in we have swapped the axles under. I want to do a sheet metal swap, because it might be easier, and you get the out of cab gas tank.
Keep in mind those wheels will most likely be 16.5 inch, and tires are not cheap nor as widely available as 15s, 16s or 17s.
If you think 16.5" stuff can be pricey & scarce, I used to have a '63 F100 that ran 17.5" (yes, 17.5") 5-bolt rims and tires!! Talk about being HARD ON THE BILLFOLD & TUFF TO FIND....WHEEWWWWW !!!
