This is the compromise we have made engines that last longer, better MPGs, and burn cleaner, but will leave us on the side of the road because a thumb sized piece of metal and plastic goes bad.
How many of you have been stranded or had your car or truck not running right because a bad sensor?
It's never happened to me.
Now, ask me how many times I've been stranded /vehicle not running right because the carb is out of adjustment, the points are bad, vapor lock, overheated, fouled plugs, you get the idea...
My answer? Many times. For my daily driver I'll take the modern computer-controlled engine over the old one any day.
Like I said you guys are lucky or I'm cursed. I spent most of last year replacing sensors on my 3 Ford trucks. I do have to admit only my 01 PSD left me on the side of the road with a bad CPS, thats where the little piece of plastic and metal comment came from. Very frustrating had a backup from the Zone that was also bad. Also when pulled the valve covers off my 96 Ranger it did look nice and clean in there very little wear I can't say that about my old 68 Mustang I had.
