I got 79,392 miles out of mine on my 05. Probably could have squeezed a few more miles out of them, but I have a commercial vehicle, and didn't want to get put out-of-service and have to buy tires on the road.
They were the only ones I could find for replacements, so I got another set.
If they work for you and you got a round set that is great....with the six on my truck, I have a better average of not getting round ones, mine were made on Friday.... before a three day weekend,.... by last shift,.... with replacements,.... that crossed the picket lines, and all the stand-ins were.... from Firestone .....that used to make tires for Explores ….
Not sure why your dealer would tell you that. Not sure what model you have on order but the 17" come standard with the Lariat and you can upgrade to the 18 or 20" rims and tires. I am getting the King Ranch so the 18's come standard with an upgrade option to the 20" . I am not sure what the codes are for the different tires but you just tell the dealer what you want. Not sure how long your truck has been on order as there is a cut off date for changes. Before you talk to your dealer go to www.ford.com , click on build your vehicle. Following the instructions and it will walk you through how you want your truck to be built. About the 3rd page you will see the rim and tire options. Don H.
I just did this and yes it has the option for BF Goodrich tires or Continentals...I will call the dealer and try to make sure I'm getting the Goodrich. Is there a Goodyear option?
There is a goodyear option only if you upgrade to the 20" rim and tire. That upgrade is only available on the Lariat, King Ranch or Harley. If you are getting the XLT it is not available.
i have a hunter road force balancer at my shop (best tire balancer in world imo) and i find that 1 out of 7 tires from conti have way to much road force or as i say for warranty purposes out of roundness also they need much more wait to balance out then a mich but the rims may be a factor there i work for mercedes-benz and they love putting conti on there vehilces why i dont know but on are amg models you normally get mich
I was at the dealer yesterday looking at the 2006s. All the 18 inch Contis were the same garbage I have on my 05. The tread was no different than mine. This year they are not ripping you off by charging $300.00 extra for AT tires. You would think Ford would have learned after the Firestone problem. Cheaper isn't always better. I think down the road Ford is going to have triple the problems putting the Contis on these trucks. The Conti's are junk! I wish my truck had the Firestones my 01 had. They were good tires in my mind and they worked in the snow and off road. The Conti's are good for s#!% !
I went to the Continental website and looked at their tires and they have a contrac truck tire that is an all season that is not a TR. Not sure if this is the one you have or not. Also, their phone number is an out of country number so I will not be calling but I did email a few weeks ago and got no response from them. I am still undesided if I should switch to the 20" goodyears on my order or stay with the Continenetals. I do know that Michelin is coming out with a 275-70-18E in the summer of 2007.
aren't michelin and conti owned by the same company?

dhawk57, I just got home from work where we were hammered with TONS of snow. I must say, the "non TR" tires that I have now, as compaired to the TR's that came with the truck OM, were by far much better in snow and ice. I did have them siped as well so that helped in ice I'm sure. Where I used to slide around, I found acceptable traction. The TR's (supposedly all terrain) sucked big time. Just my findings. It sounds like you are looking at the same alternative. If you need any info about the tires I got, I will look for whatever you need for reference on the tire for you. At 80 bucks a copy, I can live with these until another affordable tire is available.
Pretty exciting about the Michelins eh?
Tim
Thanks very much for the update on the Continentals. Sounds encouraging. I think I have decided to change my order to the 20" wheels with the ats goodyears. Now that I have heard from you my decesion is based more on the look of the wheel than the tire. It may be too late to change my order, and if that is the case I do feel better after hearing your remarks. Thanks again. Don H.
After further consideration of your comments regarding the Continentals I think I will stick with the 18" wheels and tires. Since by the time I get the truck snow season may be over, and I may not be able to test in snow until next winter, I may take you up on your offer to see what your tires say as compared to the ones I get when my truck comes in. But then who knows the day is early and I may change my mind again. Don H.
Don, the main considerderation for me was cost vs benifit for an upgrade. If there was a more affordable option out there, I would go with a different tire choice for my needs. I commute to work at a rather high elevation so snow and ice is a factor for sure. My decision was based on bang for the buck. While accepting the Conti's for one more season, I found the non TR's had better traction on snowy paved roads. I would still be leary of how far I would confidently travel in precarious conditions with these tires however. If you can easily afford going to 20 inch rims and can find a much better selection of tires for that choice, then that might be the wiser direction for you. I am already in an XLT and I just hate to spend that kind of money, and I have decided that I can get by with these Conti's for a while. JMO
When I get a chance I will look for more identifiers on my tires and acquire them for you. Not real sure what I need to look for but will pm you with what I find.
Good luck with your decision, Tim
