bobj49f2,
If I only had room and money. My wife would shoot me if I brought anything else home right now! I might have to make an excuse to drive up north though......
You can find buses like that all over South America, South East Asia and Central Asia.
The stated seating capacity of 40 is for the interior only. They can hang another 60 or so on top and on the sides. Thes figures do not include the various animals that ride for free.
Traviling on one is a once only in a lifetime expierence.
Mine too. I saw a bus like it, but a little longer, at a swapmeet this last fall. The guy had a sign on it with $1200 crossed out and $1000 marked below it. It was getting late and I am sure if I would have offered him $800 he would have taken it because I have a feeling his wife probably didn't want to see it come home again but then my better judgement took over. I like sleeping in a nice soft bed next to a nice soft woman
Those Chiva style buses are the ones that always go off the road and down a cliff in those countries! There is often more weight on the roof than in the seats. Ive ridden them on several continents.
That short bus seems to have a dually rear with just the inboard wheels giving it a narrow rear track. Or are my eyes deceiving me?
I been looking for information my bus. Looks there are others talking buses. You don't see many of them. I can't deside what to do with mine. It's made of aluminum so I wander what kind of problems that will cause. Check it out at the gallery under 1942 bus.
Wow. That is one cool pic. Thanks for sharing! I'd love to see that thing converted to a towing camper special. It would look sharp lowered and converted to an RV to tow a restored '49 F1 pickup behind it.
I always wanted to do an RV conversion on a bus, and have a chopper parked in the back! This one would be a little short for that, but definitely cool!
There are quite a few of these around here and they typically go for $1200 to $1500, this one must be owned by a California movie star or something. Aqua Fria has a lot of transplants from the Golden State and maybe he paid big bucks for it, is trying to recoup his losses...

Seen quite a few of these school buses back in the mid sixties; however they were painted every imaginable color, peace sign in the front, and most of the occupants could barely afford haircut or a razor. .
