Could someone walk me through changing out my transmission modulator valve on my 70 F250? 360 motor with C6 trans. There is a hose coming into the valve and then it looks like it screws into the pan. Would someone give me the straight scoop? Thanks!!
Put a pan under the transmission, and pull the vacuum line off. There is a plate holding the modulator in, with a bolt holding that to the case. Pull the bolt, and take off the plate. Twist the modulator back and forth a little, and it should pull out. There most likely will be oil coming out of the hole. There is also a little rod in there, make sure it goes back in, or the new modulator won't work. the new one slides in, the plate and bolt go back in place, and hook the vacuum line back up.
The replacement parts for my engine say that it is a screw in type, and it looks like, from the picture of the replacement valve, that the old one screws out and the new one screws in. Here is the link I am looking at:
FF, Sometimes those pics are generic or "stock" pics. If it is a screw in should be very straight foward. If I get by my shop tomorrow I'll check one of my Extra tranny's laying on the floor.
They came in both screw-in and push in (with a bolted retainer.)
Additionally, each style has several possible characteristics. They are marked usually with a green, blue, purple or red dot. It will be best to take it off, clean it up so you can see the color dot, and then take it to the parts store for comparison.
