You guys are a wealth of Ranger info here. Hope you don't mind me asking a question not related to my '97 Ranger 4.0, but instead about my '03 Grand Marquis. I don't know where else to look, and I trust you guys to give me an intelligent answer!
My '03 Grand Marquis is showing a check engine light. My shade tree mechanic had a code reader, but said it was only good through 2001. He did a "generic" read on it last night and came up with a code P2197, but said he would have to look up the code today. I thought it would be easy to locate that code somewhere, but I can't find any answers. Anyone know where I could look?
After google searching "OBD2 Code P2197", this is some of what I got.
O2 Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 is sticking lean, so it could indeed be bad or disconnected from most of what I read from the google results, ubt of course, proper diagnosis and not guesses are recommended.
Thanks, Alfred. Yes, I love Google also. I didn't think of trying googling the code itself. I ran it by Autozone and had them put their scanner on it and that's what they came up with. "O2 sensor, lean, bank 2". The fuel filter is suspect, and that's what I'm going to try first. It's the original, and with 75K miles, it needs changing anyway!
Appreciate your help and reply! This site is really great!
Seeing as how this 03 puppy is still under warranty that you've paid big bucks for & the code suggests it may be emisions related, IMHO don't mess with it, make this the Dealers & Fords problem.
Your emissions system warranty is for a longer period of time & mileage, than the basic bumper to bumper warraty.
Get your warranty paperwork out & review the emissions section, for time & mileage.
Since the code you posted likely infers a emissions system, or component problem, you might still be covered under your emissions warranty, IF you haven't replaced any of the troubled Ford parts, with aftermarket parts.
If your unsure if your still covered, call your Dealers service department & ask.
Could sve you some bucks!!!!
Let us know what you find.
I believe the emissions warranty time is something like 5 years on emssions related parts, can't remember the mileage though!!!!
Maybe it was something like 75-100 K miles & 5 years, I just can't remember wht the mileage part was on my 99 warranty.
No warranty involved...mileage is 75,800. My mechanic had replaced the fuel filter on Saturday, and had deleted the code so the Check Engine light went out, but it came back on that evening. Took it to the $tealer yesterday...they found and replaced a bad O2 sensor. They said the air filter element was not sealing properly... they replaced that and cleaned a dirty MAF, did an injector flush, all to the tune of $400, which also included a vehicle inspection sticker that was due. The O2 sensor was a $112 item. $207 was labor charges.
