Ive got an 00 Expy EB with the CD Changer, lately when I try to play a CD the changer will cycle thru the entire magazine and say that the magazine is empty even if there are cd's in all 6 of the slots, anyone with the same prob here ? any suggestions ? is there a reset switch ? or is my changer shot ?
I have a arm rest changer that does the same thing. I had a VW jetta that did the same thing, I just unpluged it and put a cleaner in it and it worked. I havn't had the motivation to do this on my expi, but its worth a shot.
I too have a 2000 Expedition with the arm rest cd changer and it won't work. It's like the player dosen't reconize the cd or it won't pull it all the out of the cd magazine, I'm not sure what is happening. I don't want to replace the radio 'cuz if you replace it, you have to get a conversion kit to make it fit a small radio, but if it was in dash cd, then you would just unplug the cd player in the armrest and pull it out.
I like all the features of the stock radio, it does the words, the volume raises and lowers as i got faster and I'll be dammed if I can find a antanna sticking out anywhere on the car!
So I would like to just fix the cd player also. I saw a few on ebay a for a 1999 but it looks like mine. It went for like $100.
It might just be that I need a new magazine holder for the cd's and I'de hate to spend 100bux and it work fine. I seen a couple of the magazines on ebal also but they are like $25 + shipping! I have a couple of old cd players and I tried shoving those cd magazines in there but that didn't work too well.
Let me know if you get yours fixed and I'll do the same.
I don't know if you found your answer, but here is another alternative....I have a 2002 EB Expy with a factory cd changer and I discovered that it will NOT play or recognize CD-RW (burned re-writable CD's). I burned 2 CD's on RW's and the changer just skipped over them like they weren't there, then I put 2 regular audio CD's back in and they played fine. One reason(of many) that I am changing to an aftermarket changer and head unit.
I know this is question is old but I fixed my cd player that kept telling me that there was no magazine.
My cd changer is a 6-disc in the center console. I took the whole changer apart (not very fun). There is a motor that runs the mechanism to pick up the trays in the magazine. Mine was stuck. I just moved it with my finger back and forth a few times. I then took the changer to the truck to test it. I was pretty happy when it started working. I didn't have the case on it at that point so if you attempt this, watch your fingers. It's now been four months and the changer has had no problems since. I hope this helps everyone.
I have a 98 Expy and the 6 disc changer just goes through all the cd's and does not pick one up. Is it a cleaning, jammed mechanism, or need to be replaced? Any help would be great.

the first thing that I would try is cleaning all the cd's, then pull the changer out to see how dirty it is. the changer should not be dirty, if it is covered up.
mine was doing the same thing it would not play any cd's, there is a company on ebay that fixes your changer, he emails you a shipping label, send it to him & he sends your changer back, all in about a weeks time, I think cost about 80 bucks. I did mine about 2 yrs ago & it still works great. Except for the fact mine barely plays burned cd's, which I found is a quirk with all these factory changers.
