What is the easiest way to replace the tps sensor on a 351W 5.8L V8?
Would disconnecting the throttle body and flipping it over be the best or is there another way?.Are there any other steps i should take when i replace it? Thanks for your help.
Since it's easy to take off your throttle body, I'd go ahead and do it that way.
Theres 4 bolts that hold it onto the intake manifold. Unhook the throttle linkage but be careful, dont break the plastic clips. Then you need to remove the two rubber hoses going into the throttle body (these carry coolant through your throttle body to heat the incoming air.) Then just remove the 4 bolts as mentioned earlier and pull it off. Be sure to unhook any wires going to it.
While you have it off and are replacing the TPS sensor, go get a can or two of Seafoam. Autozone and advance have it. You can completely submerge your throttle body into this stuff. Take off you IAC valve also and clean it also. This stuff will completely get rid of any carbon buildup on the inside of your throttle body, and it is electronics safe, so you don't have to worry about ruining sensors.
Then put it all back together, fire it up and listen to it idle much smoother (if it didn't already,) and prepare for the increase in throttle response. I know this because I did this exact same thing myself.
Hi Flash, I cant add too much to what Handyman has already mentioned. I replaced mine last week. Remember to put new paper gasket on when re-installing the throttle body, and clean the IAC valve as mentioned (Air bypass valve) I forgot to do mine, after reading that they can carbon-up like EGR valves. Not too hard to do.
It's extremely easy to do, and well worth the time in the end. You will notice a difference in throttle response and acceleration as soon as you take it for a drive.
I replaced the tps and that seemed to be the problem it runs great and i haven't had any trouble with it. I noticed that it shifts much smoother and runs a lot better. Thanks again for your help
