Im changing the TPS sensor. Looks like Ill have to remove the TB to get at the screws unless theres another way.
Haynes says to rotate the sensor when installing it to until you get a certain voltage. I dont see what there is to rotate cause its screwd in.
What am i missing?
You will have to remove the TB. When you install the new tps, don't tighten the screws up all the way. The little slop in the screw holes is all that is needed to adjust the voltage for the tps.
Hehheh that's why I replaced the IAC first when I had idle issues. Luckily that fixed it. I definitely did not feel like pulling the TB just for that. Hopefully I won't have to in the future either.
The throttle body is not too hard to take off. It usually takes me 10 min or so. I have never even read my manual when installing my TPS. I just put it on and fixed the problem, I had no idea they needed to be adjusted, interesting.
Its not much "adjusting" per se. You just have to allow for the tolerance "slop" in the screw holes to get the voltage pegged perfectly. Had a Heep Cheerio...er...um Jeep Cherokee with an adjustable TPS. Actually had slotted mounting holes in it. Problem was, that if misaligned it screwed with the tranny shift points and ruined the 2nd-3rd servo every 500 miles. And...if you torqued the screws down tight enough to keep it from slipping, it would crack the plastic housing and you were back to square one. Just thought I'd share.
i took the throttle body off last night it was easy and all bolts are accessible.
Had to take off the IAC to turn the top right bolt. thats easy though.
I wait for light this morning to reassemble and test. Hopefully fixes the problem, although im always doubtful:}
Got the TPS in this morning and everything back together.
Rotated it around and got the voltage to 0.999V Mostly luck.
Runs great now, idle not jumping around, so far.
I noticed the accelerator cable at the throttle body the plastic spacer inside the spring broke in 2. When i started this morning it was jammed. This is dangerous because it happened to me last winter i pressed down the accelerator all the way and it got stuck there while in heavy traffic. Some serious dodging,quick thinking and shutting off the engine, avoided a major catastrophe (mostly to other cars
Buying a new one today. Good thing didnt happen again.
Does the accelerator cable just attach to foot peddle side?. Is this difficult to replace?. Just want to estimate how long it may take me.
I had the same throttle cable problem and it stuck on me too. Replacement was easy on my 90 and I feel a lot safer. Check to make sure the throttle opens all the way when the pedal is completely pressed cuz the throttle pedal arm tends to bend and you have to pull it (bend it ) toward the driver seat to get it back in place. I did it by hand.
