Blinker Not working.....

Hello,

I've had this problem for a while now. My right side blinker (front and back) don't work when I have my park lights on or my driving lights on. The left side works fine. It seems to me the ground wire isn't grounded. But then why is it working when the park lights are on? I also believe the problem may lie under the dash. *sigh* I have a new flasher, so thats not the problem. I don't know what could be causing this. Anybody ever had this problem? Anyone with some ideas that I can try? I don't want to go on much longer w/o my right side blinkers. It's just not safe!

Thanks guys & gals

It's a '76 F150 4x4

Well this is probably not it, but its worth a try. I was up under the dash doing something and after I got out, my left side blinkers wouldn't work.

Off to the auto parts store for a new flasher. Still no blinky!
After rummaging around up there, I found the main connector (its gray) that connects everything to the steering cloumn wiring. I gave it a push together and it snapped in, giving me my blinkers back.

Just a thought,
Matt

You may want to try replacing the turn signal switch. It's underneath the steering wheel. It's not extremely hard to replace, just be attentive and pay attention to where the wires go!!! May use diffrent color tape or write #'s on masking tape to help u remember where they go!!!! Good luck.:7

Jacob, Get an icepick type tester, you can find them anywhere, Get a good one, (no more than $5.00) because if you keep an old truck, you will need it sooner or later, and a battery post brush.

Start at your bulb sockets, test for hot wire, use brush in socket to clean it. You should find a pulsing current with the blinker on to that side with the ign. switch on. If not, start working your way towards the front of the truck, and disconnect the connector near the end of the chassis and check it (it will either be working or not).

Basically you need to start at the bulb and work your way back to the steering column switch. Before you spend the money on a new switch (they are a little pricey) spray it good with contact cleaner, but not until all else has failed, because you will wash out the lube.

Good luck.

Worm,
There is a high probability that you have a dirty ground. It will take a long time to explain the alternating ground wiring used to run the blinkers. Remove, sand, and clean your grounds at the blinkers. I'll bet it cures your problem.

Blinker Not working.....

Lets see if I can explain this better. My right side blinker works except for when I have my lights on. It's like my lights drain away the power to my blinker. It can't be the turn signal switch if it works when the lights are off, could it be?

These are my notes:

Lights on - I get no blinking on the bulb. I removed the bulb, checked the socket with my test light and I get a solid light. It's a little faint, but it works. But it doesn't blink!

Lights off - Blinks

Can't be the front blinker socket because front and rear blinkers do not work when the lights are on.

Bulb is good, of course.

I looked under the dash for connectors and I did not see any. It's so tight under there. Wires going everywhere. I am still guessing it's under the dash? I'd much rather it be outside the dash!!

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. Please keep them coming if all possible.

Thanks again,

Jake

I'd put my money on saying its under the dash but use the guy that posted earliers idea work your way back with the running lights on and test all the connections for a blink, when u find where u have no blink then u've found the problum, then u can figure out how to fix it.

I had my 78F-100 repainted - afterward I had dim blinkers and no backup lights and the brake lights were really weak - - I ran a subtle ground wire off each tail light to the chassis which cured the problem - I guess all the new primer and paint restricted a good common ground in the system - not sure if this will solve your problem - good luck
