Removing NP435
Can I remove the tranny by myself. I take it all I have to do after removing the drive-shaft, transfer case is to unbolt it from the bell housing once I've removed the aluminum top cover? Am I asking for trouble? I am mechanically inclined
Recommended tools:
1) Tranny jack
2) normal sockets, wrenches, ratches etc.
3) Air gun/air compressor comes in handy if you have one.
4) Regular car jack or jack stands...can be used to raise lower tranny when getting cross members out.
Here is the process in not so much detail:
1) You will need to disconnect rear and front (at the transfer case only) drive shaft.
2) remove skid plate.
3) Unbolt the tranny from the cross memember.
4) Jack tranny up enough to remove crossmember. This can be a pain in the rear end to get out.
5) Unbolt rubber boot from floor of truck to get to shifter. Use a BIG wrench to take shift cover off the shifter/transmission. Remove pin that holds shifter in being careful not to lose it...ocated on the drivers side of the shifter). pull shifter out of tranny.
6) By this time you should have a tranny jack under neath the tranny and strapped on.
7) Pull out the 4 bolts that hold it in the Bell housing.
8) Pull and lower tranny back out of the housing.
9) VIOLA' the 200/300 lb beast is out!
Let me know if you have any questions!
Chris
