I have a 93 bronco and I am having trouble with the 4 drive. My electronic transfer case shift control module does not make the click noise like my brother's 92 f-150 when i push the 4 wheel drive button on the dash. My switch on the dash works in my brothers truck so the switch is not bad. There is also a white button on the module and if i push it a red light comes on. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
found this post a little while back, having the push button 4wd I bookmarked it, hope it helps you
AIR BORNE, U can test your processor board which is located in your passenger side kick panel. Its has a two wire pin connector attatched to the left side(closest to your engine). If u remove the two wire harness pin connector and turn your ignition switch on push the white square botton located at the bottom edge of the processor. red light flashes this means u have trouboe with your actuator motor (shift motor on the transfer case) Red light stays bright this means u have trouble with your actuator board . Good luck TR
Dallas , sorry hadnt been around, the 4x4 system on our trucks are prone to a few problems that occur after time . Alot of us never use the systems much and this causes failure. The passenger side kick panel, remove it u will see the computer. Do what the previous post tells u and tell me what u get . Usually its the shift motor on your transfer case. There use to be a good post that i have copied(printed out) that dealt with explorers , same as our broncos. I will help u in any way with your problem . Shift motors can be purchased from LMC . Ive went to the junk yard an bought an extra shift motor and took it apart and cleaned it up for future problems. After cleaning the original shift motor on my 1992, ive had the same problem as u have again and tapped the shift motor and it engaged TR

I dont want to sound stupid.....but what the heck is a actuator board??
Street gang , under your kick panel (passengers side) is a controller that supplies knowledge and power to the shift motor on your transfer case. ITs like a brain for the 4x4 eletronic shift. actuator board , computer . same thing TR.
OK.......I get it now. I have always known it as the "transfer-case shift module".......it will take into consideration what the speed, gear position (trans), and existing T-case gear position before it will electronically shift the gears.
Also, like you said it does have a self test mode.
I would prefer the manual shift over the electric shift, but thats not to say that the manual version is totally without problems. I have read posts where people had issues with the linkage not working correctly.
I have owned Broncos that had the manual and Broncos that had the electric.....my current daily driver has electric shift. All in all it aint that bad......I have a brand new shift motor on the shelf just in case, but I have found that if you cycle through the gear positions a every now and then just to keep everything nice and lubed up, the entire system is much more content.....and the few times that I ran into one that didnt want to shift.....a few taps on the motor with whatever is handy usually will get things working again.
My f150 is over 20 years old and no problems out of the man at all. I have taken the bronco shift motor out and cleaned it and such . Not an easy task for a rookiee ill assure u.The stops in these motors seem to disenagrate after time. The post that had rebuilds was an excellent piece of information, with pictures . Since i have electrical experience and( bench) 12 volts it wasnt hard at all.Pain yes but more understanding of how this system works. A spare motor is always a good thing since our vehicles are getting older and parts, harder to find . Ford had the motors for $300-$400 . I went to a local bone yard and got one for cheap opened it up and redid the stops etc cleaned it up. Lmc carrys one for 139.00I am glad i printed the info out ,its handy TR
I was looking at my shift motor to see exactly what I would have to do to replace it and I noticed that 3 wires go into the transfer case. Do I have to cut them and splice them back together or should I take the transfer case apart?

The connector will have a space for the other wires. Just remove them from the old one and insert them into the new........
