i smell gas

i have a 1991 f 150 and i smeel gas when i turn the heater on i even when i satnd near the engine the truck is EFI so i do not under stand what woudl cuase that any ideas

What kind of mileage are you getting? What motor is in the truck? Are there any gas leaks you can see? Does the smell seem to come from anywhere in particular?

mileage is really good the truck has a 302 in it it seems liek the smell is coming from the engine compartment

Check around the injectors, the fuel pressure regulator (even pull the vacuum line off of it - there should be NO gas there), and the Schrader valve on the drivers side fuel rail. Those items all have seals which could be leaking.

I'll add this, because it happened to one of my trucks. Start the truck and then with a flashlight have a real good look at the injectors. I had one with a really small crack that would leak gas, but dry up right away due to engine heat. The constant gas smell drove me crazy for a month or so until a friend ran it down.
