1974 Ford green paint code
What the heck is the paint code for this thing?. I've had a couple people look up codes for ford vans and trucks, but neither the "8G" or the "14L" come up. I've seen this same color on 2 ford pick-ups of similar years, and on one Comet or Maverick... Any ideas???
This should help.

Like I said, all the other info (trans, VIN, axle codes etc.) are stamped into the tag. But where it says "paint code" there is nothing there. I've stumped a quite few people on this one.
I've even taken pictures of the door tag and posted them on the web. Noboby can make any sense of it.
I've been told by a couple people that, during the big "custom van" craze in the 70's, some of these van were ordered with custom colors or custom paint schemes and the paint was actually done by an outside source and then returned to the dealer to be sold.
It's been suggested that this may be the reason why there is nothing on the factory tag..
Guess I'll just have to try to get it matched.

Have you checked under the seat or under the carpet for a build sheet yet ?

Still didn't find anything tho.. some are close. I realize that they will look a little different on the web, but what has me curious is the fact that they list all of their "greens" as having a "4" in the code.. I have a "4L" on the tag on the firewall but it doesn't say if it's the paint code and that site don't list a "4L" anywhere..
As for a build sheet, the previous owner had removed the original seats and replaced them with Jeep seats... And the rest of the van is gutted from starting the restoration and I don't see a build sheet anywhere..
I have the name of the original owner (I'm the 3rd owner) and I think he used to live about 50 miles from me.. I might try to hunt him down and see what he can tell me...
I just did floor boards on a 78 van and found a build sheet on top of the fuel tank of all places.
Also if a color match is of real importance you can take your van to any DuPont--- Ditzler paint store of any size and they can take a computer pic of an unfaded area and can mix from there. I've had this done and its almost perfect every time. Let me know if this helps or you need anymore info.
