Back when having shots in my spine (before surgery) I got a bill for $7,000.00 from the hospital.
I called and said that the insurance company would get the bill, then forward the payment. They said that the insurance company had gotten the bill, and that they refused to pay more than 'reasonable and customary' (sp?).
The hospital was trying to charge me for the use of an operating room, when I had the epidural. (Wrong! I was in an exam room!!!!!)

I argued with that woman for about 15 minutes. I told her that I was never in an operating room.
She said that they were 'allowed' to charge for the O.R. through the Maryland Medical Boards (or something like that).
I told her to go get the freaking money from them, then.

She wound up telling me that, "She would send a collection agent to my house to get the money."

"Fine. I keep my wallet in my left hip pocket. When that #&^*@+@ reaches into my pocket, he/she will be hearing my .45 getting cranked into their ear! I will be contacting my lawyer, and. . . I'll see you in court for insurance fraud!!!"

Three days later, I received a 'corrected' bill. The new bill was for $319.00!

In my case, for that one call, she hadn't returned anybody's e-mail, and since I thought that she was in the middle of that riot crisis, I was worried about her.

Otherwise, I would've just sent an e-mail only; and saved $142.00.

I just checked out the rates for that call and it is $3.36 per minute.

That seems outrageous to me.

This is going to sound really wierd- but my experience is that if someone far away is in the middle of a crisis and something bad happens, you always hear about it. If you don't hear anything, it usually means all's well.
