Oil Leak #2

About 2 months ago my 2005 6.0 Excursion with only 15,000 miles was leaking oil. Dripping off the bell housing and getting some spray on the underside of the hood.

Took it in and it was the cold side hose of the intercooler. They replaced with an upgraded hose. Now it is in the shop for more oil off the bell housing. Dealer just called me and told me that it is the hot side hose of the intercooler.

Each time I have been worried that it was going to be the main seal but I have been wrong. Is the main seal going to be next? I am starting to get a little worried about the leaks. Anyone else here have both hoses on the intercooler leak?

For the record...I LOVE MY TRUCK AND THE 6.0!! As of right now I would not go back to my V10 F250. I really hope it doesn't get to that point!

The only good think about the whole thing is that my dealer has been cool about the whole thing. They have even given me a loaner (Focus) when my Ex has been in.

well they are supposed to give you a loaner till they fix your truck. or they can give you a full size that would be cooler.

If it's any comfort, your not alone. The leaks aren't rampant, but they are out there plenty. Any time your in a parking lot and see some PSD's, look underneath, it's out there. I have done that a few times and everyone I have seen is leaking oil to varying degrees.

It does exist and this is no bad dream. And for the record I do like my F-350 PSD as well, but I am dissapointed and would inform anyone about it that has one.

For what we pay for these vehicles which is a darn plenty, this problem should not exist, I am sorry.

That R&D Team and their T&E Folks at FORD need to do a better job.

There's 30K people losing their job at FORD, a handful of people could have prevented that, or at minimum, lessened the numbers.

Good products can weather any storm.

Just wanted to chime in and let you know that I am just another FORD owner who suffered 2 oil leaks. Yes, the first was the RM seal. Really worried that this was just the start. In the shop for the afternoon and back on the road the same day. The second leak started about a week later - the cam sensor, I think the work order said. All is good now! Love the ride and truck, but I agree - way to much money for this type of problem to occur within 8,000 miles. I am so disappointed that I will not look to Ford as my first choice for my next truck. I just don't think FORD had the correct approach to developing this engine. The 6.4 is just around the corner, I will just sit back and watch.

Good point, I don't have insight into the relationship that Ford had with Navistar during the development of this engine. I hold Ford accountable, they brought the product to market and should have had better oversight of the process/product.

ninelives 59,

MAKES NO DIFFERENCE WHO DESIGNED THE ENGINE!

FORD SOLD IT. AND FORD (not NAVISTAR) will warranty it!!!!

You can't take the blame away from Ford by trying to say it is'nt Ford's fault!!!!

Ford had plenty of time to throughly test this engine or those designed by themselves or others. Moreover, Ford had plenty of time to negotiate any contractural terms for the service and warranty repairs for these engines.

Many are wondering whose making the new 6.4 diesel for Ford. (Rummers abound) Some of us that own 6.0's will definately be leaving the Ford camp if it is Navistar again.

I just asked about oil leaks...geez.

But since we have taken off on this path...Ford is responsible for the products that they sell. The fact that this engine still has some of these issues 3 years after they began production is what annoys me.

Like I said earlier...I still love this truck and engine so far. The oil leaks have been the cold turbo hose and the hot. Both of which were minor. If the main seal starts leaking or some other leak happens then I will officially be pissed off (not much I will be able to do except get it fixed). In the mean time I am not going to stress too much on it! Drive and enjoy.

Mike

oil leaks

I had a 2003 that had 2 rear main seals replaced also had a bedplate gasget replaced and it still leaked.I had many other problems so they offered me a replacement.I have a 2005 f4x4 cc drw king ranch with 7500 miles and not one problem.I noticed the hanging drip on the bell housing yesterday but i am not going to take it in unless it gets worse. The truck runs great with no other problems.
