So I picked up a completely stock 429 out of a 1972 Mercury for $50.00. From what I have found it will bolt up to my 1979 ford f150s C6 with some different motor mounts, also it should be a thunder jet (does that all sound right???) anyways I’m wanting to build it pretty strong. As of right now its my daily driver and still is completely stock with the original 351m, 9inch Dana 44 but does have a 9inch lift and 38’s. I’m wanting some info or suggestions on what to put into the motor and hopefully its comes from some experience. What I was thinking was to bump up the compression ratio, maybe to 9.5, any ideas? Also what cam shaft? I’ve heard good things about the comp cam high energy cams, also any ideas. I’m going to back and forth between the performer RPM intake or the Stealth??? L&L headers are that way I think I’m going to go but I’ve heard that they wont fit when I put my Dana 60’s on but with the lift I don’t know? Basically I’m just saving up the money for it and want to do it right. I don’t need a full out built to the nuts motor but I want it to stand up and salute when I hammer down on the throttle, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Actually, a Performer intake would be more in the rpm range that you would need.
It works great on my 460. I would go about 10 to 1 on the compression.
As for camshafts, CompCams is the best. They have a great customer service dept. Go to their website and fill out the question form and they will recommend the best cam for your application. I use the 268H in my 460.
