I got a 1970 429 with stock heads on it that i'm about to build for a streetable 4x4 truck. I've already ordered a rebuild kit for it that came with all standard size products. I'm running a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, 750 double pumper, and headers right now but I wanted to add more power to it so that why I decided to freshen it up a lil bit. I know in stock form the motor has I believe 330 hp. The kit came with sealed power pistons, and i'm not sure what the rest of the components are brand wise but it came with new freeze plugs, cam bearings, and rings. I'm also running a gear drive, with a new cam and lifters. It's a lunati's 00097lk cam and lifters. Also going to be port and polishing the heads and intake. Any idea on anything else I should do it? Does this sound like a good power making combo? Thanks for any advice.
Don't open the rebuild kit till you check the bore. New rings in a sloppy old bore will make an oil burning pig of a motor.
Your cam, manifold, header set up sounds ok, but the carb... A little big and a double pumper works best on a light car with low gears. (4.56 etc)
At 100% VE, your motor will only take 745 CFM at 6000 rpm. So a 650-670 with vacuum secondaries would be better, especially on the street.
Gear drive is a waste of money also. A quality double roller is much less trouble and noise.
What works for a 460 works for a 429 at a little higher rpm. Of course, adding a 460 crank would be the first step for most...
