Best rear axle?

i was just looking at my 85 f250 parts trucks, and i'm trying to figure which parts i'm going to use from which truck to make 1 damn good one. i noticed that one truck has large hubs. that would mean that it's a 10.25 full float ford rear right? and the other looks totally different. no hubs, and a different pumpkin. so i'm assuming it's a dana 60? i've heard the full floats are better. why? i'm planning on welding the rear gears. so does it matter? which should i use?

p.s the truck will never be ran on the street.

D60s have rather large hubs (tried fitting chebby wheels onto ford hubs).

From what I've heard, both are pretty indistructable, though I've not read alot on the Stearling 10.25

from what i read. by my understanding the full floats have hubs that stick out. and the semi floats don't. some of the 85 f250's came with 10.25 full, some with 10.25 semi, and some with the dana 60 semi. i thought that since one of my trucks has hubs that stick way out it would be the full float. and i would think that the 10.25 semi float would have the same pumkin as the full float.since my other axle is so defferent i would assume it was the dana 60. please correct me. how can i really tell the difference, and which is best?

i've also read that you can not really find lockers for the semi floats, and if you break one the whole axle falls out. where as if you break a full float, it's still driveable. does it matter if i'm welding the gears anywaiz? which is easier to find gears for?

if you're gonna do it right go with one of the three and accept no other... D70, 14 bolt, sterling 10.25!

full float means the axle shaft has NO load placed on it and you can pull a shaftwith it sitting in the driveway or on the trail without tearing into the diff. full float is always better!

i have busted my t-case in half, snapped or twisted my fair share of driveshafts, and even cracked a tranny mount and my welded sterling has yet to give up. also kubota has a detroited sterling with 44's bolted to it and it is still alive

haha none of them....the 14 bolt has the worst of the three, but has the cheapest detroit available, the 7ou has decent clearance and a smooth bottom, from what i have seen the 10.25 and 70 have about the came clearance, but the 70 wont hang up as easy

14bolt-10.5 ring gear 30 spline 1.5 inch axle shafts, pinion bearing setup like 9"...known for their cheap dertroit locker, abundant cheap supply, and easy gear setup(removable pinoin like 9" and adjustable carrier bearing preload like 9")

dana 70-10.54 ring gear, 1.5 inch 35 spline axles
very stou axle, but i dont know much about them, some other guys will have to chime in

10.25 sterling-10.25 ring gear, 1.5 inch 35 spline axles..

few features i like is it bolts into most ford trucks, brake drums come off like a half ton truck(you dont have to take the hub off), axle shafts are sealed with an oring, my favorite part is setting up the gears, the shims are on the outside of the carrier bearings rather than the inside.
came in 85-97 ford 250 hd's and f-350's

You could have one of the following axles:

Dana 61, Dana 70, or a Sterling. All decent axles. The dana 70s are nice if you have a two piece carrier, detroits are the same low price as the 14 bolt.

Dana 61 has the housing beef, but it has 30 spline shafts, and the gearing options are there, but can be a pain.

The Sterling is good, but a detroit can run $500-700 dollars. The pinion and ring gear bolts are known to back off, but if you use a Ford 9" solid pinion spacer and Dana 70 ring gear bolts, you are good.
