Full float vs. semi float 10.25
Full float vs. semi float 10.25
Well, I just got a light duty 89 F250 (fo free!!!). I'm looking for a good deal on a 10.25 rear end, so as to put 5.13's in it. But before I go looking for an entire axle, would it be possible to just throw the 5.13's in the semi float rear and run that til I can gather the stuff up to convert it to full float?
Is converting to FF even possible, or is it another one of fords ******* parts?
While I'm here, what are the differences, outside the obvious, between a full and semi float 10.25??

The sxle housing for the short vs long pinion is the same its the gears And yoke the is different.
I've seen them in stock form go for as little $50. As far as I know you can't convert a semi to ff, well I guess u could, but not worth the work

what these guys said.
the only thing that really matters about the year of the axle is if you need the vss abs crap or not. the early versions didn't have it iirc. the 93-up long pinion are better because you don't have to buy a new yoke right off the bat, either way go with the long pinion gears when you buy them because they are less prone to having the pinion wobble around and do damage. price wise i guess it depends where you are at. don't know yard prices but c/l prices around here are usually $200 and up, only seen a few for less than that.

Actually already bought the gears back in February, have a front axle but no rear. I figured maybe I could upgrade as I go, buuuuuut prolly not now lol. I figure a decent 10.25 will cost me about $200 from a local yard, but I'm cheap, so I'm just waiting for one to pop up at a buddys house or on c/l for dirt cheap. I could prolly do some trading with some of these yahoos around here if I ever find one up for grabs.
I'm in Roseville, about ten minutes south of Zanesville. Parkersburg is...eh, maybe an hour and a half. Two at the most. I bump across the border to go visit grandpas hometown now n then.
well, I FINALLY got ahold of my neighbor, and he says he has a couple under some old company trucks (92-97 Shelly Materials F250s). If he is as reliable with deals as he's been in the past, I'll prolly snag one for free. Scrap price at the very most. Coolest part is, he worked for a local trans shop for a while before moving to a better paying job, and he says he'll help me set my 5.13s up in the axles, might even get some cheap install parts from him.
*Jedi mind trick fail* ...but thanks anyway cheeto
Thats a dead ringer!!!!!
blucollar4xford u get a axle yet? ( I mean u've had a whole day)
Not yet, there's a nasty storm here and it's proving kinda difficult to get back to the field they reside in. This sucks, I'm finally motivated and mother nature sends me a flaming bag of dog poo.
P.s. I greater than three power outages.

Also, on the subject of 10.25 axles, are there any good alternatives to the craptastic brakes on the 10.25? Discs are out for now due to funds, but I've heard (even owned) 10.25's will fall out of adjustment almost regularly......?
