heater switch/ dashboard assembly '93
Hello all,
I just got my license back and now my trucks heater isn't working right, great timing . I'm in CT in December.
Ok, my bronc is a 93 xlt the heater blower only works on high. I know I shouldn't complain it might not work at all but I wear contacts and no matter where the heat is coming out it's blowing so hard it dries them out. The fan blower is new that was easy. I'm not sure how to disasemble the dash first of all. The steering area is not that hard to figure out but the center section I'm not sure about. Is it similar?
Might this problem just be the switch, is this common?
There are more problems but those will have to wait.
Thanks in advance,
Justin

To gain access to the AC/heater controls you will need to pull the trim between the upper and lower portions of the dash. (Silver/grey pinstrped on both my XLT's) Then proceed to deal with what seems like an endless number of tiny trim screws to get the lower portion of the dash to even move.
It sounds like you have a problem with the resistor assembly. On "HIGH" the blower motor receives full electrical system voltage 12-14VDC. This is why yours still works on "HIGH". All of the lower settings run the GROUND through a resistor BEFORE it goes to the truck frame (ground "F" on the driver's side behind the emergency brake pedal assembly). There is a different resistor for each setting. I will warn you that if the resistor assembly is the problem child (which it would seem it is) you will have to find one from another truck because they are not available aftermarket. There is an outside chance that the problem is as simple as a bad ground to the resistor assembly. Check the BLACK wire going to the assembly for good continuity to ground.

The resistor assembly is gonna be buried back behind the control panel somewhere and the ground wire for the assembly will run from it to the ground lug behind the e-brake pedal. Most likely its gonns be inside a wire loom with a ton of other wires which is why I suggest checking it at the ground lug and at the terminal on the resistor assembly.
