This morning while trying to get my vehicle warmed-up I noticed that I could only get the blower to work on High. Also, when sitting at idle without the lights on the gauge showed that the battery was charging normally. But by turning the lights on the gauge took a dramastic dip. When driving everything back to normal. Has my switch gone bad or is it the motor itself?
I found the switch at my local Autozone for $53.99 but don't want to puchase it if that isn't the problem. Is the switch a hard fix?
Sounds like a bad blower resistor for the heater problem. The resistor is plugged into the side of the plastic heater duct, probably under the dash, but might be under the hood. 3 or 4 heavy wires attached to it.
For the voltage thing, start it up & connect your voltmeter to the battery. Whats the voltage reading? Turn on the headlights and whats the voltage reading?
I have the same problem and came looking here for answers. I have two speeds, OFF and high. I am not having any voltage problems but will check.
I was thinking it could be be a burned resistor(s) for the mid-range speeds. Will look in the location suggested in XLT's post.
Are they part of the switch? or located elsewhere? Or does this blower change speed by changing a motor winding?
Like 87 XLT said, it's a seperate resistor cluster/block near the motor. Search this forum for resistor and you should be able to find several threads regarding this.
It's most likely the resistor cluster; check for voltage at the connector on the cluster (each pin as relevant to each of the missing fan speeds) before buying a new one.
