Question Timing and carb.

I have just replaced my 351M motor on my 1982 Bronco. I have a couple of questions. First with the timing I understand that 10BTDC is standard factory setting. Is this with vacumm line disconnected and plugged or not? Second, I have a holley 650 carb and was wondering about the needle valve adjustments on the sides. When turning them out are you adding or deleting gas ? What is a good standard setting for these? Thanx for any and all info.

Afraid I cant' help with the carb adjustments but I will say that 10*BTDC is a fairly good place to START with the timing but always defer to the under-hood decal for the exact timing specs for your truck. Slight variances in ignition modules and the original region the truck was sold in alter this setting and the correct under-hood decal was applied accordingly at the factory.

Klocom, those are idle mixture adjustments. Turning them in (CW) will lean the mixture, and turning them out (CCW) will enrichen the mixture. I'd start with about 1 1/2 to 2 turns out, and see how it idles; then adjust accordingly. Bear in mind that these screws control the idle mixture only, and not the carb running mixture.

Smile Initial Timing

I do find it weird that an 82 bronco is not listed with a 351m, but if yours is automatic, 10 BTDC, and if manual, 6 BTDC for the initial timing.
