I recently purchased a 2006 F350 cc 4x4 lb w/ manual trans/tfc and hubs. I have 8,000 mile on it and so far I am really happy with my first diesel. I am interested in any advice and experience anyone has in regards to installing a larger exhaust in combination with an exhaust brake. Is any gain worth the expense and are these mods in combo a good idea? Any suggestions on an exhaust brake? I read somewhere that the brakes mounted directly to the turbo may not be the best idea due to the high heat. I am more interested in one that mounts in down stream from the turbo. What is the best method of controlling the brake (air pressure, elcetrical, hydraulic) and any suggestions as to which brand is preferred? Any negative experiences after installing a brake?
I wondered about adding an exhaust brake at one time. I came to the conclusion that downshifting the manual transmission in my truck was more than adequate, even towing a moderately heavy trailer or maximum capacity in the bed when descending hills. If you are towing heavy loads, then an exhaust brake is a good mod. From what I have figured, the BD Power exhaust brake is one of the top rated ones.
I have been running a MBRP 4" turbo back exhaust for about 2 months now. I'm liking it a lot, and it looks and sounds sweet.

From what I understand there is problems with the VNT turbo and exhaust brakes. That in the international trucks the PCM has to move the vanes to a certain position to prevent damage to them.
The MBRP exhaust systems are the only one that allows you to keep your factory cat totally stock, that keeps the dealers happy. We also have a cat test pipe that bolts in with two bolts and one clamp for off roading and racing uses. The MBRP systems are available in aluminized, 409 and 304 stainless as well as in duals too. If you want an inline exhaust brake check out US Gear. Call us at DPPI if you have any questions on the exhaust systems.
I've spent the last hour or so reading up on the bd exhaust break. Does anyone have one with the zf6speed? I was just wondering about real world experience. I thought some time ago that read you should not use one with the 6.0 variable turbo? Is this true?
