I have been having steady brake chatter. Had rotors turned but it came back after 5000 kms. Ready to install new high performance rotors. Any ideas or experience with aftermarket brakes would be great. I have been able to find Power-slot rotors locally but have never heard of them before. I am not rich but am not above spending top dollar for better parts.
If so, you should make sure that your greased the sliders for the calipers. This is often overlooked by home mechanics. It took me maybe 25+ years before I realized this myself. You need high temp Disc brake grease. You clean all the metal sliding surfaces of the calipers and clean the slider pins or bolts. Then you put a light coat of grease on all the metal to metal sliding surfaces.
Also make sure you don't get greasy finger prints on the rotors or pads.
Did you rebuild the calipers? ie clean out the cylinders and clean up the pistons and put on new rubbers? This is another area where you might create chatter.
By the way, various manuals recommend greasing the sliders periodically like every other oil change. Might be worth it if you get a lot of rust or dust.
According to the dealer it is a common problem that the rotors
warp. That is why I didn't want to go with stock rotors.
The brakes were serviced at the dealer so I would hope they
lubed the slides. Thanks Jim!
