starting problems

I have a 68 F100 has a 83 302 w/a 3 speed my problem is when my starter engages you can hear it hit the flywheel.Sometimes it grabs sometimes it don't.Mostly don't.Has a new flywheel and starter,never has been shimmed.It's starting to mess up my new flywheel.It was working fine then poof started being a pain.new wires, two batteries 12v plenty of cranking amps.Can anyone help?

Check cable connections from/to battery/starter/ground and anything else in between. I had the same problem years ago on an old Datsun pickup. Cleaned everything up with a wire brush and problem went away.

To be honest we've been getting crap reman starters from the jobbers for years now, it's probably just an NG starter.

I'll agree with the starter just being bad....I'd go back and get another one

Make sure to order the correct starter for the year make an model of your transmission and flywheel.

Was the correct flywheel purchased for this transmission (bellhousing)?

I had that problem once on an old 85 model. I tried getting a bendix for a 351M, and it wouldn't mech right and kept stripping it...turns out it was actually a 400
