Question Are 96 and 97 the same?

I have a 96 E-350 and am thinking about a 97 E-450. Are they the same except for suspension? Same HP etc.? I know they are both 7.3 with E40D. Does the 97 have a block heater? Thanks for any help.

The 97 should have a block heater and same HP. The E-Super Duty does have a heavy duty suspension with a 14,050 GVW if thats what you are thinking E-450 wise.

It doesn't say super duty on it. Can it be an E-450 and not a super duty? My reason for going bigger is for more towing. I want to tow 12K.

96=215 hp
97=225 hp

i dont have any van specs.... but the most my truck says to tow is a trailer weighing no more than 13,500. it all depends on tranny and gears. of course people tow a lot heavier loads than this all the time.

my owners manual lists a 450 and superduty for 97????????????

I didn't think SD started until 99? How do you tell if you have a SD or not? Almost every time I go to the parts store for my 96 they ask me if its a SD.

Hi All

I have a 97 PSD, my brother has worked on Fords for over 30 years. He has stated that the (7 PSD did come with a block heater, so far I haven't found it. He said it is above the oil Filter, I just changed the oil filter, and didn't see one, but since I am new to a Diesel, I'm not to sure what I looking for. I did notice that on the oil filter housing, that a heavy duty flat Red wire was coming out of the side of the housing, could that be it, I haven't been able to trace the wire, will have to remove the air filter box to be able to see underneath there, and to see if I can find a plug. Any Help would be appricated. Thanks. My 7.3 is the second love of my life. Dan

The E/F-Superduty prior to 99 is a 450, no matter how it is badged.
