I Have A 2001 F 150 I Just Bought Flame Pinstripes To Put On It But I Have To Remove The Old Pinstripes First Can Anyone Tell Me The Best Way To Remove Them Thanks
Using some caution and patience use a brand new razor blade. I worked at a detail shop for a while and thats how we'd always do it. Work on an end and get a good piece up and pull lightly. Take your time though. Any scratches can usually be taken out with some compound and elbow grease. Word to the wise though, make sure the pinstripes aren't painted on, I almost made that mistake once.
try a hair dryer first before you get the razor out, sometimes if you are able to use a hairdryer at the end (get it good and warm) peel the end off first and work your way down the truck. then get some "goo gone" or "simple green" to take the adhesive residue off
WHat WRESLEU said. I did detailing too and we used razors on the stripes that were old and really dried out. Hair dryer on newer stripes, about 3 inches from the surface, and you can start peeling it up. Then a rag with GOO GONE, Simple green or I have even used brake cleaner. Removes the "shine" until I wax it again though. Goo Gone works great too.
Go to a parts store that sells paint and bodywork supplies and ask for a "pinstripe remover wheel." Its like an eraser that fits on the end of a drill. It takes off the tape and adhesive at the same time. Works wonderfully. I got mine at an O'Rielly's parts store, but Autozone or another big chain of stores should at least be able to order them if they don't stock them. Hope this helps!
Heat is the only way to go and save the paint. And WD-40 to clean up afterwards, It's the easiest thing I've ever used on paint. I even used it once to get cheap tape resido off base coat, and if it won't hurt that, it won't hurt anything.
use the heat gun....i did it my selt and used the 3M adhesive remover like beech kid is talking about and it worked like a charm....i had ugly white pin stripes on my truck so i took them off and put some silver ones on myself......i have pic's in my gallery.....
