I just passed on getting a overhead consol from an explorer. Question is how does the compass work, is there a sensor up there that needs to be gotten?
also how about the temp sensor if there is one? Actually what are the menus in the consol, never been in an explorer, and my F350 has milage, temp, direction etc.
This was the short consol from an 01 2dr explorer, if its not a big thing to hook up due to everything built into it, may try and go get it later.
The temp sensor is something extra. It would end up being wired somewhere behind the driver side headlight if I'm not mistaken. The compass is built in. You won't be getting mileage readings, however. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes, you need the temperature sensor too. As mentioned, it's located up front near the driver's side headlight. There may be two sensors up there, you want the one that has a snub-nose look to it (as opposed to the other sensor that has a pointy tip).
No mileage function(s) on the Explorer overhead console.
Wiring it isn't hard really, you'll need some extra wire though. You can put the temp sensor inside or outside, up to you. You'll need the console and mounting brackets. The brackets you can get from the Exploder or they're like 4 bucks from Ford.
Ok I got the consol today but could not locate the temp sensor! Found the pointy one and the only other thing I saw was a box attatched to the front radiator support. The guy in the yard was no help as to what to look for so I wasnt able to find it. There were 2 explorers sitting side by side and neither had anything in common except the box noted above. so where should I have looked.
Ok look at the console. What colour is the wire coming out of it? Well ok lots of wires, but either that box or sensor should have a wire or more than one coming out of it. Match wire colours up to see which one it is. The colour coming out of the sensor will be the colour going into the console.
