Overhead console temp sensor

I just got finished putting up my new overhead console from an explorer, and now I'm wiring it up. And I need a temp sensor. I found an explorer with the overhead console at a junkyard, but can't figure out where the sensor is. I know it's supposed to be somewhere up by the headlight, but I was just wondering if anyone could be a little more specific on the location. I think the explorer is a 98 or 99 if that makes a difference. I already posted in the explorer forums, but it seems no one knows about their own trucks in there. lol One guy even said it was in the rear of the truck, which I know is not the case. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The ambient air temperature sensor and bracket (19E702):

- is located in front of the A/C condenser core near the center of the vehicle.

-contains a thermistor which measures the temperature of outside air as a resistance and sends that reading to the electronic automatic temperature control assembly.

According to the diagram in my Ford Manual, it looks kinda like an ECT sensor, which doesn't surprise me since they are both thermister-type units.

Looking again at the schematic, there might be two different sensors at the front of the vehicle which have the similar purpose of registering outside temps. I believe the one you want is actually the "Outside Air Temperature" (OAT) sensor which feeds a signal to the Overhead Console (as opposed to the EATC). The location of the sensor you want can be best described as just below the Ambient Temperature sensor that I spoke of in my previous post. Apparantly they're situated pretty close to each other up in front.

Kinda confusing, but that's how Ford did it.

Higgin - I am interested in doing the overhead console install in my '04 Ranger. I am concerned about color matching. Can you tell me if the outer shell can be seperated from the black inner shell for painting. Thanks.

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure. I'm going to be wiring it up here tommorow or wedensday, so i'll take a look while I have it down. I have heard of people painting them, but i don't know if they took them apart, or just taped off the parts not wanting painted. I'll let you know.
