Gear Box
The source of the leak is the bottom of the sector shaft. So, I guess I will be replacing the entire box.
While I'm at it I will also replace the the P/S pump, hoses, and install an inline filter. I searched for a loooong time on here, and it seems that the Saginaw pump is the way to go. I also have come accross the Ford HD P/S pump as it is basically a Saginaw unit with a different casing that will bolt up in place of my old pump. I came accross an old thread that someone had pointed out that you can only hook up a Saginaw pump to a Saginaw box or else there would be steering bindage and other problems. Has anyone else heard of this? My truck is a '77 with a build date of 02/77. I heard that at one time Ford used Saginaw pumps, before switching to their intelligently designed (
) pumps that most of us are stuck with.Where would be the best place to buy a gear box, and will a Saginaw pump cause problems with a Ford box?
Thanx in advance for you help.
Bill

It was mentioned on forum, not sure where, but swapping a power steering pump with a divorced fluid reservoir.
