Cold startup no power thing

My truck has been like this for quite some time 01 7.3 60,000 on the clock. When I start it cold you can put it to the board and no power it takes about 4 min before it will get out of it's own way. I am looking to check that pipe that gets plugged with carbon I'd like to check and clean if needed. If I new what that pipe was I would be half deadly maybe it's egr or something either way if someone could post a pic or steer me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

How's your motor oil level? What kind? Syn is great for cold weather starts.
The HPOP(high pressure oil pump: drives injectors) needs good clean oil.
Maybe your having CPS problems??
I'm sure someone else will pipe in here and help.
Maybe an EBPV problem. Any exhaust pressure at tailpipe?

All these trucks do exactly what you have described when it gets cold enough. However, I will say this, I live in Wasilla, Alaska and that is about all mine takes to "warm" up enough for it to really go. That is with it being plugged in. Otherwise, in the winter, when it is oh my god cold, it won't start at all. Also, diesels seem to have less power the colder it gets even when all the way warm. I have never understood this but the two diesels I have had both were slugs until they warmed up a bit. I have a feeling it has something to do with the turbo dump valve and I would bet this is probably normal. I don't worry much about a mere four minutes; it takes me twice that long to scrape the ice off the windows on the crew cab, and I'm not getting in that thing when it is minus 30 out until it warms up a bit. I hate it when my rear end freezes to the seat.

I'd look at your turbo waste gate. Mine was stuck with carbon and soot, so I had no power when she first fired up. I'd have Ford clean that out, or do it yourself. Clean and rebuild the butterfly valve. Thats the first thing I'd have checked, because with the valve stuck, you will have no power until that big ol' diesel gets warm.

There is no way it should be doing it at 60 degrees. Like I said, something is messing with the dump valve, or it is plugged as shadetree said. That seems to happen the most on trucks that are used mostly for short trips, but eventually they all get plugged someday.
