Not the first and certainly not the last. Worst part is that a great many Americans don't even comprehend the sacrifice, let alone appreciate it.
As has been pointed out many times, "Freedom is NOT free". My deepest sympathy to their loved ones.
The unit hit was the 2nd Marines RCT-8. Out of Camp Lejuene. Thats My brothers unit. My brother wasn't hurt, at least not physically. A little to close to home for my comfort. My sister in-law is part of a group of wives that provide support at the base for wives who have lost their husbands in battle. They have had a long week. After this war has over and gone, I believe that Falluja will join the list of places that will become synomonous with sacrifice in the hearts of Marines. Semper Fi, Devil Dogs.

Gonna be a long list. Most people don't realize how long. All started with a pirate tribute........Glad your brother's safe.
I support being in Afghanistan and Iraq, but for the soldier's sake, I can't wait for them to be home. I have a cousin in the USMC, went to Iraq, blew his knee out, he's transferring units so he can go back, it's all he wants to do.
Bless their souls, and thanks. Nothing we say can soothe their families, but our thanks for every step they took in the uniform may help to ease the pain.
-I think that sums up what I think right there, so I will let it go at that.
Yep. Every day I pray for those who have died and those who will. And I don't forget those many more who are horribly injured in both body and mind...and the legions of loved ones in the families who are affected...and that will include the future generations who are raised by someone who didn't have a mommy or daddy, or whose parent was "injured" by the war.
Oh yes, I "comprehend the sacrifice"...which is why I can be angry, as well as grateful.
I am a peacetime veteran so I can't know what it's really like over there, but I'm sure the troops in combat are enduring every discomfort and sacrifice that I did, and many times that. In appreciation and respect for my fellow Americans I frequently raise a toast to those who are defending my freedom to do so. May they all return safely and soon.
