E4OD to C6 swap?

I just bought a 1991 F-150 4x4 with a fried E4od in it, and i was wondering if anyone ever put a c6 in its place? Any good articles on the swap? Thanks in advance.

You would need to look for a C4 with a 302 bolt pattern. I don't believe there are any C6 trannies that will bolt to a 302. As for the swap, I'm sure you will need to do a little fabrication. Is something wrong with the E40D? If it were me, I'd keep that, have a really stout rebuild done on it, just so I could keep the 4 speed overdrive.

This is the third transmission the truck has had, and i was told a c6 would bolt right up, and just be a little shorter. I was just wondering if anyone has made the swap successfully. The E4od is too much to keep replacing, and thats why my friend sold me the truck. Any ideas are helpful though.

You're right. There are some C6's that have a 302 bolt pattern. Here's a link:

I don't know if the current tranny crossmember will work or not. Worse case you have to make a new one and possibly to some driveline work. The C6 is a stout tranny.

You'll have the same problems with a C6 if it's rebuilt the way your E4OD was.

There were PLENTY of C6's made that will fit a 302, as it shares its bellhousing pattern with a 300 and the 351.

Ok, i have a few more questions.... Looks like a custom crossmember will have to be made for the swap. Will my current transfer case work? I have 33x12.50s on the truck and it has a rear and front end out of a 94 4x4 f150 that had a 300/6 and an E4od tranny, what size gears do i have in the front and rear end?

Yeah, I caught that mistake of mine and reposted. Just make sure that it isn't for a 351M as it shares a bellhousing with the 400 and 460.

Just wanted to add that this truck is going to primarily be a beat around and hunting truck. I am not worried about gas milage or that much comfort. I picked the truck up for dirt cheap and i dont want to sink tons of money in it. I really dont know a whole lot abot 4wd's, but i am very good mechanically. I am going to send off a spare E4od that came with the truck to a buddy of mine that rebuilds trannys, and i guess i will go from there. Are there any websites that shows specs on my truck such as front and rear ratios from a year/combo standpoint? This is my first Ford so any basic info would be helpful. Thanks

The computer is going to freek if you put a C6 in it. The E4OD is computer controlled and unless you get a computer from a stick that thing is going to turn the check engine light on and probbly go it to limp mode if it dosent see a signel from the tranny.

I read a post where it said that the computer would work fine, but it would spit out codes and the check engine light would come on, otherwise it would work ok.
