Well...start simple...look for an engine. Tranny will have to be replaced with something that can actually take it.
Really it's not bad. Mounts are widely available or you can make your own. If it's carbed it basically drops in and goes. Not a bad swap at all. Hardest thing, or worst, pic your choice, is notching the air box so it will fit and you MIGHT have to get an electric fan, it depends.
I asked about this before, but am new to site and don't know how to get around it yet. Anyway I have a 94 xlt 4x4, 5 spd. manual, 3.0 efi. want to swap in newer 4.0. Been reading about trans., wiring, and other issues listed here. what would I have to change? Please advise, if its the whole drive train maybe a new one is better way to go. Thanks
I don't think I would do a 302 swap. Sure it's gut wrenching power, but there's a guy in the 4-cylinder forum with a 2.5L that's turbo'd. After injectors, a MAF, a chip, and the turbo kit, he dyno'd the rear wheels at like 298hp. That's what I want to do. Seems like it'd be more economical than a 302 as well. Either one would be a big power gain. I'm also a big fan of the 4.0. The wiring wouldn't work (like Pilot said), you would need a new comp, wiring harness, etc. Good luck with it.
