acclerator pump???

I'm wondering now that i have my 300 all buttoned up. I have problem.

the carb is ford oem non rebuilt Carter YF. and it runs like crazy with the opened exhaust and 260 cam. but i noticed if i stomp on it it will throw you in the seat till bout 2500 then die off and bog. but if i go easy and use less than half throttle then it will run just fine. no stumbles with either

i have the carb kit. but wondering if thats what it is. Timing is set at 12, new Autolight 45's and Moroso plug wires.

Hopefully gettin 390 and DP Offy for christmas. but this truck scoots with 4.10s.

what do ya'll think

It sounds like the carb is running out of fuel. This is probably due to the fuel pump not being able to keep up with the demand of the engine. The pump may not actually be bad, but with your modifications, it may not be able to keep up. You could try an electric pump. Good luck.

could be. is the fuel filter the thing that screws into the inlet of the carb? cause thats the only place i can see a filter like substance. its small though. Bet its original and needs changing.

How much are these stocker pumps able to support? it's a stock carb. I guess the added air volume being pulled through with the cam and exhaust would make it a bit more thirtsty. good thing i don't stand on it much.

I'm at around 210hp and 315'ish torque. which is probally realworld 190/300.

I might have to add a electric just to be safe but i'll test the stocker first.

thanks

If the element in there looks like a bunch of iron filings, that is the stock filter. Personally, I'd throw it away and buy a good infine filter and put it somewhere between the pump and the carb that will be easy to get to for changing. As for what the stock pump will flow, I have no idea. Sorry.

I'm confused. Excuse me if it's me. Your heading was about accelerator pumps and it seems the discussion is about fuel pumps.
Just to clarify....an accelerator pump is internal to the carb, it squirts extra fuel into the throat of the carb when you press the accel. pedal.....it's there because without it, when you press the throttle, the throttle valve opens more, the mixture is too lean to get up and go, so the extra fuel helps it along, and your mpg's go south.
Filters? The stock filter IS an inline filter, it just happens to be mounted at the carb inlet.
