okay so i got everything fixed on it well almost. i have a clicking sound coming from the the engine i open the oil filler cap and it gets louder. did i throw a rod in this thing, i notice my oil pressure went to zip as well. i have an oil leak coming from what looks to be a panel on the side underneath my spark plugs what is this panel. i dose it have a gasket that can be repalced or do i just need to invest in a new motor im not sure what the heck is going, need some help with im not a mechanic but im pretty good at figuring stuff out.
Ok, first off, we need to know engine model, year, and MILEAGE. That is very important. You see, the clicking that got louder when you took off your oil filler cap is probably a valve/rocker arm/pushrod out of tolerance. Now, my next question is, did this sound just start, or is it an existing sound that just keeps getting louder? When you have the hood up, and you give it some throttle (not alot, just enough to change RPM) does it start clicking faster? Also, that "panel" is not a panel, it is the engine block. The part that the spark plugs screw into is the cylinder head. They meet together, and between them is the head gasket. If you have a lack of oil pressure, and an oil leak, then you may have a blown head gasket. My next series of questions are have you noticed a decrease in power? What about a decrease in fuel mileage? Does your truck idle rough (keep in mind some inline 6 engines have a sort of twitch/jiggle to them)? Let me know, I will be watching this thread.
sorry about that its a 87 F-150 EFI inline 6 300 140000 miles
as far as i know it just started didnt do it before
yes on decrease of power
im talking about the thing below the spark plugs behind the coil pack it looks like a panel of sorts i know what the cylinder head is this panel is at the lower part of the engine below spart plugs and behind the coil and dist.
yes it gets faster when i adjust the throttle
yes it idles rough between 900rpms and 1300 rpms back and forth

Reason: typo
After a thorough search, that which you describe as a panel is indeed the block. It is a diffrent color than the cylinder head, and has sort of a /\/\/\ type casting design across its entire length, correct?
thats what it is. im pretty sure i need to replace the gasket on that what i need to find out is if there is any treatments for that inexpensive that i could try before i pull the head off and redue the head.
well now its its being rebuilt and beefed up come to find out it was a bearing went out so i went and had the motor pulled at my friends no its sitting in my garage the head is at the machine shop port and polished. order a cam and hydralic lifter kit with roller rockers. new vavls, springs push rods, TB spacer, and then im gonna rebuild the entire motor. head will be done tommorow, i have the engine gutted and am replaceing every thing i got my rebuild kit from www.rpmmachine.com its nice you can customize the kit the cam and liftes and rockers came from checkers well here i go bacfk to work on this thing.
