My neighbor has a late 70's model 4x4 ford pickup w/out power steering. Aren't there kits avalible to add power steering or an assit type sytem? If there are where can I find them? Any help is appreciated.
You didn't say if it's a F250 or F150 but one of the easy ways to do this is to upgrade to the 78/79 intergraded power steering box. I bought a 79 F250 4x4 setup and made a backing plate and bolted it on.
I think the options for the 1/2 tons are different.
I'd avoid the power assist systems as they have a bunch of hoses that hang down and get snagged and have been troublesome.
the hard way is to find any power steering box that fits and start finding brackets that'll work.
The advantage of the 78/79 F250 into a F250 is that the box is in the same area and only reqires some drilling and a backing plate, the linkage arms were a straight bolt on.
I have a 74 f250 Highboy wich has power steering that needs help. it has the hoses hanging down that you mentioned. how much did the 79 setup cost and how well did it work?
I was told to by chevy parts and install them because they are tighter. comments?
