Rev. limit
"I would like to know what the rev limit to a 2000 model 260 hp 5.4 is". I have the 5 speed standard and it is in sorry condition. It will grind downshifting to second gear if you are above 10 mph. It will grind at any rpm going up to or down shifting to 3rd gear, and it will intermitently grind going into fourth. "If anyone could tell me how much a rebuild would cost that would be great". I know chips can bypass a rev limiter but I am just interested in what rpm I should shift at so that I do not blow up the engine. I have taken it to 5200rpm when dusting chevy's. Is there actually a rev limiter that I have not hit and if so what rpm will I hit? For those of you thinking I have worn out the transmission I didn't. I am the 3rd owner of this truck and the clutch was dragging when I bought it.

Shift around 3500 to stay in its optimum torque output.
Rev limiter usually come in around 5400 give or take a hundred. You were really close at 5200.
Rebuild is probably around $1500.00. Sounds like you need new snychronizers.
