'06 SCREW / 6.5 - VIN decode ( engine type)

Howdy, All...
My local dealer ordered me a F-150 '06 XLT SCREW , w/the 6.5 ft bed... I got a VIN, and I ran it through :

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin_tools/default.asp

to check it out...
the VIN is 1FTPW14V46Fxxxxxx

<TABLE id=tablegeneral cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 border=1><TBODY><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TH colSpan=2>World Manufacturer Identifier - 1st, 2nd, 3rd Positions </TH></TR><TR><TD>VIN Code:</TD><TD>1FT</TD></TR><TR><TD>Assembly Country:</TD><TD>USA </TD></TR><TR><TD>Make:</TD><TD>FORD </TD></TR><TR><TD>Body Style:</TD><TD>PICKUP </TD></TR><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TH colSpan=2>Restraint System Type (Passenger Cars) or Brake Type and GVWR Class (Trucks and Vans) - 4th Position</TH></TR><TR><TD>VIN Code:</TD><TD>P</TD></TR><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TH colSpan=2>Line,Series Body Type - 5th, 6th, 7th Positions</TH></TR><TR><TD>VIN Code:</TD><TD>W14</TD></TR><TR><TD>Vehicle Line:</TD><TD>F-150 </TD></TR><TR><TD>Chassis Type:</TD><TD>4 </TD></TR><TR><TD>Body Type:</TD><TD>CREW, SUPER </TD></TR><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TH colSpan=2>Engine Type - 8th Position</TH></TR><TR><TD>VIN Code:</TD><TD>V</TD></TR><TR><TD>Engine:</TD><TD>5.4 LITERS </TD></TR><TR><TD>Cylinders:</TD><TD>8 </TD></TR><TR><TD>Fuel:</TD><TD>FLEXIBLE - GASOLINE/METHANOL </TD></TR><TR><TD>Horsepower:</TD><TD>154 HORSEPOWER </TD></TR><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TH colSpan=2>Model Year - 10th Position</TH></TR><TR><TD>VIN Code:</TD><TD>6</TD></TR><TR><TD>Model Year:</TD><TD>2006 </TD></TR><TR bgColor=#cccccc><TH colSpan=2>Assembly Plant - 11th Position</TH></TR><TR><TD>VIN Code:</TD><TD>F</TD></TR><TR><TD>Assembly Plant:</TD><TD>DEARBORN: DEARBORN, MI </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

See the engine code ? whats up w/that? Doesn't the hp rating look low ? On my order sheet (VOC) , it's listed as option " 99V 5.4L V8 FFV ENG $895/743" . I looked through the order guide, my notes, this+other sites, etc, and can't find anything on opt code 99V . Is this the 'regular' 3valve 5.4 , or is it different? As per the order guide, opt code 995 is 300hp ; yea, right, but I bet it's more than 154.

I'm alittle confused on the FFV, too ; I thought FFV meant Gas or Ethanol , not Gas/Methonol.

Can anybody set me straight? The '05 I test drove had engine code 995, and it wasn't all that powerful ; I can only imagine less engine in a bigger truck.

Thanks! this site Rocks !

The flexible-fuel 5.4 is a new option for the 2006 F-150, and it will run on any combination of 100% gasoline up to 85% methanol/15% gasoline. Unless you have E85 fuel available in your area (and I doubt you'll EVER see it in Orlando, FL), I don't know why you (or the dealer) would have ordered it this way. I'm not sure where the horsepower rating comes from, as Ford hasn't given us any hard data on the 5.4 FFV yet.

UPDATE:

I just did some digging (info-gathering thru Ford is NEVER easy), and found a bulletin that states,

"No extra charge for FFV option
Horsepower and Torque ratings are identical to the standard 5.4L
Maintenance schedules and costs are identical to the standard 5.4L
Fuel economy is identical to the standard 5.4L (gasoline)
There are no external badges to identify FFV vehicles, only a label inside the fuel-filler door
Transparent operation to the customer (no special requirements, the engine adjusts automatically to any mix of E85 or gasoline in the tank)"

And there are no V10 FFV engines available.

FWIW, all engines (SI) must meet at least be able to run E-10. Which is 10% ethonal/90% gasoline.

Hey, Guys..
Jeff/Everybody , thanks for all the input... As always, I never quite understand things quite right...

It sounds like both the FFV and non-FFV labeld engines are avaiable for the '06 f150. Right?

No hp/tq/mpg/maint/$$ difference ? It Must be the same engine, huh? I'll guess that it's just different programming. sound right ? by that reasoning, it leads me to the quesion " any difference in the ability to chip/tune either engine ?" .

I guess what I'm getting at, is 'if they are identical, and the FFV is a little more flexible, why Not get it ? ' . Although I doubt ever run e85, I have the sneaking suspicion I'm going to pay Some price for the ability to do it ( like maye differet stock programming?).

jdew1910 ; my voc is dated 11/15 , and I got my VIN ~20th, and initial/week scheduling ~22, for build week of Dec 12. but no movement ( accoring to the VOPC line) since before Thanksgiving.

Again, thanks for all the help understanding this... I think I'm stuck FFV, but I bet some future/other members might have some quesitons answered...

I had a Ranger with the FFV 3.0 V6, and their was an in-line fuel sensor that could detect how much methanol was in the fuel line at any moment, and the computer would adjust things as necessary. If you're running 100% gasoline or 90/10 gas/methanol, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that motor and a regular 3.0.

Differences in chip/ tuning? I have no idea, as I never get into that. A good question for the Performance forum, though.

Thanks workinmanm - I ordered mine the day before you. Just talked to my dealer - it is scheduled same as yours. Hopefully I'll get it before the end of the year - considering the dealer is 10 miles from the plant it shouldn't be too difficult. Damn that means I have to get my current truck ready to sell!
