I went and looked at a 56 truck that was advertised as a 56 long box, but what I found was a 56 M100 Mercury cab and chassis with a 6 cylinder and dual wheels. I can tell by looking that the front wheel openings are larger, but just wondering if the rest of the cab is the same as the 1/2 ton short box. The cab is rough, but the doors aren't bad, and I could use the rad support and inner fenders if they are the same. It has a nice set of mercury emblems that I would like to get also. Not worth much what is there, and probably will cost a lot just to tow it away, but if cheap enough could scrounge some parts. I know the cabs got bigger at one point, but that may be on the big rig 550 or 650?
Anyone know anything about this?
Thanks, Hagen
It is my understanding from previous posts here that all of the cabs and doors from F100 (M100) up are identical, as are the radiator support and inner fenders. The beds and outer fenders are different (as you know).
If the fenders, bed and gate are in decent shape, they are worth a few bucks because nobody makes replacements. The Mercury emblems could be worth something too, even if not perfect as long as they aren't broken.
