What do you guy's pay for trucks?????
I just picked up a 53 short box and wondered if I always pay to much because I don't like to walk away and lose it.
The owner wanted $2000 for it originally with no motor or tranny. He was including all parts for an Arrrowstar front end in good shape and parts from a 76 ford 1/2 ton for steering column, rad and M/cylinder.
I started at $1000 and upped it to $1400, but he wouldn't budge on $1800. At the end he said he would include the 76 302 and c6 he had, which ran but has a rod knock started.
So what did I end up with in the end for his $1800..........
very straight and clean SWB frame with original front suspension, rear springs W/newer 9" mounted (rivets on spring mounts all replaced temperarilly w/bolts)
very, very nice cab with clean original cab corners, perfect roof and original floors with only pitting in some spots. (could say almost rust free)
beutiful rust free straight inside fenders and rad support, straight clean hood and nice grill and head lights. good doors
passenger fender needs work at front, but the other 3 are solid with minor dents.
nice box sides that are fairly straight, decent tail gate, but front panel is damaged and floor is gone.
misc 53 parts such as dash, fuel tank, new tail lights, new door rubber, and old bench seat
complete arrowstar front end, steering rack and new springs for the big 6 w/AC
302 and c6 from a 76 pickup along with column, rad and m-cylinder
and very important is a clean title with the truck
Will try and post picks in my gallery for your opinions....
I don't think you stole it but the price doesn't seem unreasonable. Hopefully the 302 is rebuildable and the C6 is in good shape (a C4 might have been a better match for the 302). The nine inch is good if it's okay. I'm not sure the 76 column, radiator, and master cylinder will be of much help. The straight rust free cab and clear title are big plusses. Good luck on your project...
I got my truck and $600.00 in trade for a 1949 Pontiac SilverStreak. My truck was(is) pretty banged up. With a little work I got the original flat 6 running and overhauled the brakes so I could drive it. There was no paperwork on the truck at all and I just spent about $200 getting that handled.
Take a bunch of pics of the beauty and set up a gallery so that we can see what you got.
Pictures should be in my gallery. The previous owner just bolted it together temperarly to sell it. It was stored in pieces, stripped to the frame.Yes thats can. $ so about $1575 US.
The worst thing is I didn't tell my wife about it yet, I am trying to bring it home in pieces and hide the cab and frame at a friends for a while. I have to clean up some other ex-projects and misc. pieces before I tell her.
Dealing with panels with minumum or no rust would be a pleasure. My 56 has fibreglass front fenders and valance, and carbonfibre rearfenders. The 3 box panels are new metal.
It looks like you are following the golden rule: "Save a lot of time and money by taking over somebody else's work-in-progress." Now, get busy and make us proud! Vern is right, if that c-6 is too bad, you would prob be better off with a c-4. Good luck, Jag
